Our first holidays together as a couple were on Mykonos island. I knew the island quite well but for Ahmad it was his first time to visit Mykonos. He was immediately enthusiastic and he even fell in love with the island. Almost right away he said that he would like to visit the island every year!
On our second trip to Mykonos the next year, we decided that if we were going to get married, we would do so on Mykonos, or at least have our wedding party on the island with our friends. Mykonos is the place we feel more like home, people are very friendly and everything feels so familiar!
Of course the wedding party and the whole outcome was exactly what we had imagined and everything was smooth and perfect !
Everything fell on the wedding planner’s hands of course as everything was prepared on Mykonos while it was impossible for us to be there as we live in Abu Dhabi. But we had direct contact with Katia and we were able to decide very quickly about everything. Decorations, food, guests’ favors, photographer, the wedding day concept, the make up, the music, Katia with her team provided everything we wished for. In general, I am easy in making decisions as soon as I find what I am looking for, and with Katia as our wedding planner, we could have it all right away. She immediately understood what we were talking about, moreover she embellished beautifully our ideas and wishes.
Our guests were mostly close and old friends and our wedding gave the opportunity to reunite. People came from Athens, AbuDhabi, Lebanon, Turkey, London and of course from Mykonos. Many of them had never visited Mykonos before and they left confident that they will be visiting again and again. They were very happily surprised by the Greek way to celebrate and they had a great time.
This story begins with a lovely enthusiastic young professional woman from Greece who decided to move to Abu Dhabi a few years ago to pursue her career there.
It was there, where she met Ahmed, the love of her life! And soon later they were about to get married!
Mykonos is the island they both love and a place they visit often for holidays!
They both have an original and natural style and Mykonos matches their style completely.
I was introduced to Ioanna by a common friend and we started communicating through What’sApp, the only way to instant messaging between Greece and the UAE.
It was less than 2 months before the actual wedding day that we started communicating and it was more than enough after all, as they both had a clear idea of what they wanted.
The couple decided they did not wish to have a traditional wedding party and ceremony, so they booked a few tables in one of the best dinner restaurants in the old town and right under the Mykonos windmills for their 40 guests.
A taste of the Greek summer and entertainment is what they wished to offer to their guests and friends who arrived from places far away from Mykonos and most of them, had never been on the island before.
They chose this location and restaurant as the one place that would combine it all and make sure their guests would really enjoy the evening, great food, great party, sunset and all that right by the sea.
August is really a great time for flowers like olive leaves and white roses, and I was so happily surprised when I received the pictures showing what kind of decorations they would prefer, seeing this amazing combination that was also exactly what I was thinking at the time.
Ioanna was very organized and had already a clear idea of what she wanted. A rich decoration hanging over the tables with olive leaves and white roses, brightly showcased which tables were the wedding dinner tables. The hanging lanterns were lit right after the sunset. Each table was named after a Myconian beach and a name card was placed on every seat, for the guests to find their places. Every little detail was well thought with great love and respect towards the guests, expressing the creativity and relaxed but thoughtful attitude of the couple. The night passed so quickly while it was evident that everyone was enjoying so much everything.
The day had started early with preparations, hairdresser and make up for the bride and grooming for the groom.
The photographer managed to cover the preparation of both by running from one hotel room to the other as the bride and groom did not get ready in the same hotel.
When they arrived at the wedding party location it was already sunset time and they made their entrance from the top of the hill over the restaurant and everyone could see them walking down the narrow steps and had so many moments to capture.
Ioanna’s dress was sparkling under the sunset light, matching her beautiful hair and smile.
Ahmed’s smile although moderate was radiating love and satisfaction and honor. Professional pictures were taken with their guests during the cocktail hour before the dinner, in front of the wish table where guests could serve themselves of the wedding almond sweets that is accustomed to offer in weddings all over Greece and write their wishes in the couple’s wedding wish book.
The wedding favors, little honey and nut vases, decorated with lace and with a custom made ‘Thank you’ note from the couple were set one by one on the dinner table.
Babies breath wreaths and lace on the couple’s chairs distinguished the bridal table.
The candle lights on the tables were lit and the dinner started.
After the starters, a large fish presented on an elevated glass tray was set on each table as the main course, while the music was getting louder and the songs were making everyone want to dance.
The moment it was time to cut the wedding cake, everyone was already standing and dancing.
The house DJ did make us a lot of favors and played all the songs that the couple had wished for, covering both Greek and Arabic hits that made everyone happy and dancing on the tables.
Everyone was having a great time while the sea waves were only a breath away making the atmosphere uniquely exciting while the combination made everyone feel as if they were rather in the sea than on land.
An unforgettable night, a unique evening to celebrate the beginning …their life together.
And they lived happily ever after The next few days were spent on the Mykonos beaches making dreams of their life together and planning for a family…
